You may have decided to work towards your finances and, family and personal time management by starting an online business. You may have considered setting up your online portfolios until it dawned on you that you can’t find that extra time to do it. You realized you’re already too busy with all the existing tasks that you have. You’re not alone. Many people who seek this change in life are challenged on how to build momentum in business.
You may have done a little or may not have begun yet with all these wonderful plans having a home business. Somehow you’re building up frustrations and now wonder if you could really do it. We all have distractions when it comes to working towards our goals. There may be our full time job, family obligations, health maintenance routines, social responsibilities, the list never ends. You’ve realized the meaning of what it really takes to do something new. Most of the time, it’s outside your comfort zone.
Something always comes up. Truth be told, it’s a matter of deciding whether we do it or not, whether we do it now or we do it sometime whenever. We have to fight back our negative tendencies to be indecisive and put off doing important things that can impact our lives significantly. We need to take courage and take charge of what we really want to happen in life and business. Ask yourself, if you don’t do it, who else would? If not now, when?
Take these 4 strategies in starting small, thinking big and building momentum in business:
-
Take careful notes on how you use your time.

Take note of your time use.
Are you aware of what’s eating up most of your time? Whether you answered yes or no, it is still a wise move to get a pen and paper, and start taking notes of what you do everyday from the moment you wake up until you sleep. Your list may include your preparations for your job, taking the kids to school, driving time, gym time, meetings, cooking, etc. Put your weekend schedule as well.
After one week of documenting your time use, you now have a good picture of how your week goes most of the time. Remember, your goal for this strategy is to find some window time you could use instead for your home business. Maybe you can find two hours every day or every other day to work. If your schedule really looks impossible, you may need to check on your priorities.
-
Set a schedule to start or progress at your home business ideas.
Commit to work at the time you have set for your home business. Stick with your schedule. No matter what happens, have a resolve that you will be available at that particular time only for the home business opportunity that you’re taking on.
Expect to meet some difficulties at first. You’re starting a new habit and your mind may search for all the excuses not to do it. Don’t succumb to it. Just remind yourself and stick to your schedule. You may have to discipline yourself to work at work time, so you can attend to other things at their due time. Sooner you’ll get the hang of it, and you’ll become better. If you see yourself flourishing, maybe you could add more time.
-
Spend time with your family.

You may have the temptations to do your home business tasks when it’s actually time to spend with your family. Never do that. Chasing two rabbits will make you catch none. Communicate well with your family what you are doing. Depending if you have young or older kids, you can set your time to work while they are in school or when they are asleep at night.
Expect that you will need to take extra effort to make this work, especially if you have a day job. Focus your attention on the newly found freedom that you can enjoy when you have cracked the code on starting a home business. It will pay off, but you need to gather up your energy in the present to work towards it. Find a balance on your time by setting limits on how long you’re going to work. Importantly, be really present when you’re with your family.
-
Welcome distractions.
Stuff happens. Sometimes a well-planned day can turn into chaos. It’s a just a mere fact, because we have no control on every variable in our daily lives. Somebody gets sick and your care is required. There’s a sudden meeting in the office or in school and you need to be there. Instead of fighting it and upsetting yourself, it’s wiser and more practical to be just solution-oriented. Care for the sick, be present at the meeting and, attend to the urgent and important matters at hand.
Your business opportunities from home will be right there anyway. For your sanity and productivity, focus on one thing at one time. If you welcome the possibilities of distractions or interruptions in your schedule, you’re more equipped to solve problems and still have the knack to work on your home business project given the time. Unfortunately the opposite is true. If you resist and distress yourself constantly, it may affect your health, peace and productivity.
Sometimes the battle comes when you’re now sitting down and facing your home business. Your mind may still be busy on the last thing you did at home or in the office. That is why, as an entrepreneur working on the best home business ideas, it is very useful to always take note of your thoughts and daily progress on a project.
You will see that it’s easier to go back to your notes, and check on what you’re trying to do. Don’t strain your head too much by trying to remember everything based on memory. Reserve your brainpower where it’s most needed. Use notebooks or note taking apps instead. You can even record your own voice prompting yourself on what you need to do. Taking records, documents and thoughts about our home business is one skill and habit critical to business success.

A dream doesn’t become reality through magic, it takes sweat, determination and hard work. Colin Powell
Yes, You Can!
How to build momentum in business is very similar to how to build momentum in life. You first account how you use your time. And then put into schedule the change that you want to happen. You stay consistent and work hard on that until you see some results. When you’ve built momentum, you’re now ready to put more actions. You’re able to do whatever it takes to realize that change. And mind you, you will be rewarded with the kind of results you want if you do the right thing over and over again. It’s possible with an open mind and desire to work on your goals everyday. Take these strategies and flourish.
